In 1925 the first archaeological excavations were carried out at the Paracas peninsula in southern Peru. Until then little was know about this culture that existed from 700 B.C. through 100 A.D. The iconographical representations on these textiles were mostly anthropomorphic, serpent and feline figures.
These iconographic designs include mythological beings which are richly attired, wear masks or facial paint and feather headdresses and carry scepters as symbols of power. This weaving is a good example of that style. This is a contemporary reproduction done in the time consuming discontinuous warp and weft style of weaving.
